Justice to NCAA: Why no college football playoff

The Justice Department wants to know why the NCAA doesn't have a college football playoff system and says there are "serious questions" about whether the current format to determine a national champion complies with antitrust laws.
Critics who have urged the department to investigate the Bowl Championship Series contend it unfairly gives some schools preferential access to the title championship game and top-tier end-of-the-season bowl contents.

Paralyzed Rutgers football player Eric LeGrand doesn't believe in feeling sorry for himself, getting angry or wondering "Why me?"
It's not his style.
The 20-year-old said his injury while making a tackle on a kickoff return against Army on Oct. 16 at New Meadowlands Stadium, was a one-in-five-million longshot that happened because fate or God intervened.

Florida CB Jenkins Arrested on Marijuana Charge

Florida cornerback Janoris Jenkins has been charged with marijuana possession for the second time this year.
A Gainesville police report says an officer spotted the 22-year-old sitting in a parked car, smoking what the officer later found to be a marijuana cigar.

Notre Dame to Release Report on Student's Death

The University of Notre Dame on Monday will release its six-month investigation into the death of a student killed when the hydraulic lift he was on fell over in high winds as he filmed football practice.
The Indiana Occupational Health and Safety Administration last month announced it would fine Notre Dame $77,500 for six safety violations tied to the death of Declan Sullivan, including knowingly putting its employees in an unsafe situation and failing to heed National Weather Service warnings on a day when wind speeds reached 53 mph. Notre Dame has told IOSHA it wants a formal hearing to discuss the state's findings.

NCAA Committee Approves Series of Rules Changes

College football could have a very different look next fall.
Teams will have the option of shaving 10 seconds off the clock for penalties called in the final minute of each half. They will contend with a more liberal definition of intentional grounding, and they could see points taken off the scoreboard for taunting penalties.
